Weekly reading: December 10

Eating:

The search for an iconic sandwich in Aleppo. I love these types of stories--my brother's quest for the best Italian Beef in Chicago was an epic that kept me riveted. This story gracefully describes the human element behind the taste memories we cherish and miss.

Writing:

There's a lack of diversity in food writing. As a white writer in a diverse city, I struggled with this. This is labeled an opinion piece, but Adrian Miller clearly and factually describes the obstacles to diversity in food writing, from representation to opportunity to pitching. I'm sitting with it for a while.

Business:

Trade barriers in cheese.  Tariffs, quotas, and technical rules keep many cheeses from going international.

Farming:

The midterm elections will overshadow the policy in the next farm bill. But the Food and Farm Act, introduced outside of the ag committee, takes a refreshing approach.

Atlanta:

Meet Kimball House's shucker.
